 It is known as the biggest toy store in the world and because it expands over seven floors it is pretty easy to understand how it earned that name. Hamleys in London is known throughout the world as the coolest toy store to visit. It is a building that houses pure magic, fantasy and imagination that is captured perfectly in every single toy that Hamleys stocks.
Started in 1760 by William Hamley who stocked his first cramped little store with every toy he could find. Everything from tin soldiers, to handmade baby rattles and rag dolls were stuffed into the little Hamleys toy store, making it a wonderland for children. Initially Hamleys was initially named ‘Noah’s Ark’ thanks to the amazing amount of animal toys William had stocked. In 1849 Harrods opened close to Knightsbridge estate agents, but by then Hamleys was a well established ‘joy emporium’ for children and adults alike. Today, both stores are exceptionally famous, each filling a specific need for consumers. |
