Donna Margherita is the Name, Authenticity is the Game
 As the title of this piece suggests, Donna Margherita is all about authenticity. The ingredients are imported from Italy, the menu is imported from Italy and even the chefs are “imported” from Italy in the form of owner and head chef – Gabriele Vitale. The fact that this local Italian restaurant is frequented by the knowledgeable and affluent Italian community that resides in the area, is a testament to the authenticity of Donna Margherita in Lavender Hill.
The Restaurant: Donna Margherita basis all its commodities on those of authentic Southern Italian foods. Chef Gabriele Vitale is originally from Naples in Italy and brings with him the history of the area and its love for food. Naples is accredited with the making of the first modern pizza as we know it today, and the pizzas served at Donna Margherita are not very different from the first pizza that was baked for a visit to the Naples community by Queen Margherita back in 1889. The ambience and theme of Donna Margherita is aimed at being the same as any restaurant of a similar variety found in the Neapolitan culture. The Menu: Apart from being more than reasonably priced, the Donna Margherita menu is simple, to the point and provides an option for everyone. From “the best pizza in London” to chicken and Italian seafood dishes, the menu caters for a variety of fussy pallets and is sure to have you returning to try out the dish that your date tested out because it simply looked so delicious. There is only one problem with the menu at Donna Margherita, and that is the problem of choosing what to eat because it all looks simply too delicious. What about Capital FM’s Johnny Vaughn who said that Donna Margherita makes “the best pizza outside of Italy”… Surely that’s worth something. Time Out Food nominated Donna Margherita for “the best pizza in London” in 2010. MetroLife, Evening Standard said that “it was the best thing I have eaten in ages”. |
